Do difficult surgeries cause more side effects?Or is it the most commonly performed surgeries that cause more?

Here, “plastic surgery side effects” refers to cases in which the result of plastic surgery is not a normal one;

please understand it as a blanket term for any unwanted problem that has appeared.

What Are “Plastic Surgery Side Effects”?

Plastic surgery side effects are cases in which a cosmetic surgery or treatment leaves behind inflammation, nerve damage, deformity caused by anatomical changes, functional impairment, and the like.

In other words, when a surgery or treatment leaves, cosmetically or functionally, an unwanted result or an abnormal result that does not usually occur, it is collectively called a “plastic surgery side effect,” and this is also a situation that calls for secondary or revision surgery. Resolving Plastic Surgery Side Effects: Case 05 [Correction of Chin Muscle Ptosis After Surgery] - Photo 2

So, among those who visit our clinic for revision surgery,
which plastic surgery side effects are seen most often,

how can they be prevented, and
 how should secondary surgery to correct them be carried out? Let us take a look.  Resolving Plastic Surgery Side Effects: Case 05 [Correction of Chin Muscle Ptosis After Surgery] - Photo 3

The following are the typical problems

of patients who visited Won-Suk Kook Plastic Surgery to resolve plastic surgery side effects. Resolving Plastic Surgery Side Effects: Case 05 [Correction of Chin Muscle Ptosis After Surgery] - Photo 4

Chin contouring surgery corrects conditions such as a protruding chin, a receding chin, or a wide chin.

Among these, the procedure that corrects a protruding or wide chin to create a slimmer line,
“V-line chin surgery,” is the most widely known method.
In chin surgery, after an intraoral incision is made, the muscles attached to the chin bone
and the lip muscles are dissected, and the bone surgery is then performed.

After the bone surgery, the muscles must be reattached to the bone;
however, when a silicone implant is inserted or the bone is reduced in size, the muscles become loose,
fail to adhere closely to the bone, and begin to sag.

This condition, in which the muscles fail to adhere and the chin sags,
is called a "ptotic chin" or "Witch's Chin". Resolving Plastic Surgery Side Effects: Case 05 [Correction of Chin Muscle Ptosis After Surgery] - Photo 5
The upper illustration shows that when bone is resected or an implant is removed, the muscles that were attached
sag downward (in the direction of the arrow).
The lower illustration shows that not only do the chin muscles sag, but the lower lip
and the groove below the front teeth (vestibular sulcus)
also drop down with them.

When this sagging occurs, the mouth does not close well,
and the gums show excessively when smiling, which is aesthetically unfavorable.
From the front as well, the area under the chin bulges and sags downward,
making the chin look longer. Resolving Plastic Surgery Side Effects: Case 05 [Correction of Chin Muscle Ptosis After Surgery] - Photo 6PH

·1 year ago, the patient underwent surgery for a receding chin at another clinic, with a silicone chin implant placed,
but because the mouth did not close well after surgery, the implant was removed 6 months later, according to the patient.

·Even now the mouth still does not close, and the lower lip hangs down, exposing the lower teeth and gums
When the mouth is forced closed, the chin dimples like a walnut

·This shows the patient relaxed and at rest: the lower teeth's gum line is visible and the mouth does not close.
From the side as well, at rest the lips do not close and the tip of the chin sags downward.  Resolving Plastic Surgery Side Effects: Case 05 [Correction of Chin Muscle Ptosis After Surgery] - Photo 7This shows the mouth closed: it looks unnatural, and because the chin muscle has sagged and the lower lip hangs down,
the patient closes the mouth by straining the upper lip downward and pursing the lips.

Before surgery, in the relaxed state (rest position), the lower lip sagged downward,
the lips did not close well, and even the gum line of the lower teeth was visible.

After surgery, in the relaxed state (rest position), the lower teeth are fully covered
and even the upper teeth are naturally covered, and the chin can also be seen to be shorter from the front.

Before surgery, the tip of the chin sags downward. After surgery,
the sagging muscle at the tip of the chin has been lifted, and the chin can be seen to be shorter.

The lips also close more naturally.
Before surgery, the patient had to strain to close the lips, and the chin tensed and wrinkled;
after surgery, the lips close naturally without straining the lips or chin.

This patient closes the mouth by covering the lower lip with the upper lip.

This shows the mouth closed.
Before surgery, the lips were strained and pursed,
but after surgery, they are naturally relaxed and spread, without tension.
In the chin muscle as well, cobblestone-like wrinkles are distinct in the tense state before surgery,
but after surgery they have naturally disappeared and the chin looks relaxed.

With the mouth naturally open: muscle tension is low and the mouth opens naturally.

Before surgery, the lower lip was rolled inward,
and the chin muscle sagged downward, with a double fold visible under the chin.

After mentalis resuspension surgery, the double-chin fold under the chin disappeared and the chin naturally became shorter.
At the same time, the lower lip that had rolled inward has come forward and looks natural, and the chin is taut.

Even with the lips naturally parted, the sagging chin is taut and the double chin is gone,

and the lower lip, which had been excessively retracted, also parts naturally.
