Why Lisoom

Overview Non-Surgical Lifting Planned
for the Thin Skin of the Neck

Ultherapy for Neck Lines is an ultrasound lifting treatment that uses the same MFU-V (Micro-Focused Ultrasound with Visualization) device as for the face, but with depth, energy and line allocation planned conservatively to suit the neck, where the dermis is thin and structures such as the thyroid, carotid arteries and trachea lie close by.

The 1.5, 3.0 and 4.5 mm transducers address everything from superficial horizontal neck lines to the level of the platysma, while direct application is avoided in the midline over the thyroid and a lateral approach is used.
The treatment is performed while checking the location of the thyroid and blood vessels with DeepSEE real-time ultrasound imaging, which helps secure a safety margin; results vary from person to person.

Image-Guided Thyroid Avoidance SUTURE guide image

SutureImage-Guided Thyroid Avoidance

The safety margin of neck treatment relies heavily on DeepSEE real-time ultrasound imaging. Because lines are placed after the locations of structures such as the thyroid, carotid arteries and trachea have been checked on screen, this differs greatly from methods performed without visualization. We adhere to the principle of avoiding direct application of 4.5 mm in the midline area over the thyroid and treating only the platysma through a lateral approach.

DeepSEE Thyroid Avoidance Lateral Approach
Superficial Horizontal Lines HYBRID guide image

HybridSuperficial Horizontal Lines

The 1.5 mm transducer acts on the superficial dermis of the neck, refining shallow horizontal lines and texture. Because the dermis of the neck is thin, it tends to respond well even to superficial stimulation, but excessive intensity increases irritation, so conservative settings are used. This is the depth given greater weight for those whose horizontal lines are prominent.

Deep Dermis Firmness PARTIAL guide image

PartialDeep Dermis Firmness

The 3.0 mm transducer acts on the deep dermis of the neck, creating an environment that stimulates collagen and contributing to overall firmness. When horizontal lines have progressed together with thinning of the dermis, increasing the proportion of 3.0 mm rather than using 1.5 mm alone is more favorable for a stable result. It is often used for those whose sagging has begun at the dermal level above the platysma.

IncisionLateral Approach at the Platysma Level

The 4.5 mm transducer acts at the level of the platysma, the SMAS-equivalent layer of the neck, to tighten sagging contours. The principle of avoiding direct application in the midline area over the thyroid and approaching laterally to treat only the platysma is the key to safety. It contributes to refining the contour under the chin and along the sides of the neck, but at this depth the number of lines is set more conservatively than for the face.

OUR PRINCIPLE

Core Values
The Principles RESUM Keeps

The skin of the neck is thinner than that of the face, and the anatomical structures beneath it lie close to the surface. Applying facial settings unchanged narrows the safety margin and makes results less consistent. At RESUM, Dr. Jin-Young Kim, Director, assesses the thickness of the neck skin, the location of the thyroid and the distribution of horizontal lines in a 1:1 consultation and then plans the treatment according to neck-specific principles.

Safe Avoidance

Safe Avoidance

Thyroid Avoidance Principle

Direct application of 4.5 mm is avoided in the midline area over the thyroid, and only the platysma is treated through a lateral approach. Line placement is decided while checking the location of the thyroid and blood vessels on screen with DeepSEE real-time imaging. Adhering to academically established avoidance principles is the starting point for the safety margin in neck treatment.

Thin Calibration

Thin Calibration

Intensity Adjusted for Thin Skin

The neck has a thin dermis and little subcutaneous fat, so applying the same intensity as for the face can easily cause excessive irritation. The energy for each transducer is adjusted conservatively, and the line spacing is set wider than for the face. The intensity is lowered, while the extent of the result is supported through the planning of line allocation.

Honest Limit

Honest Limit

Honest About Limitations

When horizontal neck lines are very deep or platysmal separation (platysmal bands) is prominent, full correction is difficult with Ultherapy alone. We explain honestly in the consultation when other options such as Botox, a thread lift or neck lift surgery are more suitable, and we do not tell patients that a single treatment resolves all horizontal lines.

POINT 03 Features

Features of Ultherapy for Neck Lines

Ultrasound Energy and How It Works

Ultrasound Energy and How It Works

Ultherapy gathers focused ultrasound (MFU-V) into points at depths of 1.5, 3.0 and 4.5 mm within the skin, creating thermal coagulation points (TCPs) of about 60°C or higher. It selectively delivers thermal stimulation to the dermis and the platysma level, inducing immediate tissue contraction and the regeneration of new collagen and elastin, while surrounding tissue such as the epidermis is protected. Because the skin of the neck is thin, the intensity is adjusted conservatively. Acts on the dermis and the platysma level · Forms TCPs of about 60°C or higher · Induces collagen and elastin regeneration · Conservative intensity suited to thin neck skin

DeepSEE Real-Time Ultrasound Imaging

DeepSEE Real-Time Ultrasound Imaging

What sets Ultherapy apart is DeepSEE real-time ultrasound imaging. Because energy is delivered while directly viewing the skin layers and tissue structure during the treatment, in the neck the lines can be placed after the locations of the thyroid, carotid arteries and trachea have been checked on screen. Unlike methods performed without visualization, this helps secure a safety margin. Real-time confirmation of thyroid and vessel locations · Midline over the thyroid avoided, lateral approach · Accurate energy delivery to the layer that needs it · Contributes to securing a safety margin

POINT 04 Q&A

Can Facial Settings Be Used As-Is for Neck Ultherapy?

First, the skin and anatomical conditions of the neck are different.

First, the skin and anatomical conditions of the neck are different.

Compared with the face, the neck has a thinner dermis and less subcutaneous fat, and the thyroid, blood vessels and trachea lie close by. Applying facial settings unchanged can narrow the safety margin, so the plan is made conservatively with neck-specific depth, intensity and line spacing.

NOTICE

Precautions
Aftercare & Precautions

N · 01 The skin of the neck is thinner than that of the face, so sensations during the treatment may be felt more distinctly; we set the intensity conservatively and proceed while checking how you are feeling.
N · 02 After the treatment, you may feel a sore tightness for a few days when turning your neck or tilting your head back; this usually eases within a week.
N · 03 Direct application is avoided in the midline over the thyroid and the platysma is treated only from the sides, so if you have a thyroid condition, please let us know in advance during the consultation.
N · 04 Mild redness or dot-like marks may appear on the surface of the neck, but they usually subside within a short time.
N · 05 For a few days after the treatment, avoid turtlenecks and scarves that constrict the neck as well as hot compresses, and take care to use a neck moisturizer and sun protection.
N · 06 When horizontal lines are deep or platysmal bands are prominent, a single treatment may not smooth them out, and we will discuss together whether other options are suitable.
N · 07 Collagen regeneration is gradual, so changes in the neck contour usually appear slowly over 2-3 months.

Doctor's Note

With Neck Ultherapy, safety comes before results. Avoiding direct application of 4.5 mm in the midline over the thyroid and approaching from the sides is a principle I never compromise on. While adhering to academically established avoidance principles, I personally assess the location of the patient's thyroid, skin thickness and the distribution of horizontal lines in the 1:1 consultation before allocating the lines. When full correction is difficult with Ultherapy alone, I also explain Botox or other options honestly.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions

We have compiled the questions patients ask most often before a consultation.

The device and the mechanism are the same, but the energy for each transducer, the line spacing and the approach differ. The neck has a thin dermis and lies close to anatomical structures such as the thyroid and blood vessels, so conservative intensity and the principle of a lateral approach apply. Because carrying over facial settings unchanged narrows the safety margin, a separate set of neck-specific principles is needed.
Some change is visible right after the treatment due to immediate contraction of the dermis and platysma; new collagen synthesis then builds up over 2-6 months and horizontal neck lines are gradually refined. The effect tends to be most noticeable around 2-3 months after the treatment. Because the point at which patients notice the change varies, we do not give a definitive timeline.
As there are no incisions, you can return to daily activities right after the treatment. Slight swelling, tightness and irritation may last from a few days to about 1 week, and in rare cases mild bruising may persist for up to 1-2 weeks. No separate downtime is needed.
Temporary swelling, tightness, slight bruising and irritation may occur right after the treatment and settle within 1-2 weeks. Because nerve irritation or temporary irritation has been reported in rare cases, we adhere to the thyroid avoidance principle and the lateral approach. DeepSEE real-time imaging contributes to securing a safety margin.
An avoidance principle applies: direct application of 4.5 mm is avoided in the midline area over the thyroid, and only the platysma is treated through a lateral approach. Because lines are placed while checking the location of the thyroid on screen with DeepSEE real-time imaging, a safety margin is secured compared with methods performed without visualization. If you have a history of thyroid disease, please be sure to tell us during the consultation.
It depends on the combination of transducers used, the number of lines and the treatment scope (neck alone or together with the face). There is no single fixed price; the cost is calculated from the plan designed for each patient's condition. The exact details are explained at the consultation stage.
