Summary Chin filler is a treatment in which a highly viscoelastic product is injected into the chin tip to create length and a defined profile line, planned with reference to the E-line and the position of the lips. It is used to correct a receding or short chin and is performed at RESUM Plastic Surgery in Gangnam (Apgujeong), Seoul. Medical Review Medical Review: Won-Suk Kook,Jin-Young Kim

Why Lisoom

Overview Filler That Naturally Corrects
a Receding or Short Chin Line

Chin filler is a treatment in which a cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA) product with high viscoelasticity (G') is injected into the deep layer above the periosteum of the mentum (chin) to create length and a defined profile line.
A natural-looking profile takes priority over the frontal view, and we assess whether the lips sit naturally within the E-line (Ricketts), which runs from the nasal tip to the chin tip.

When a receding chin requires a very large change, implant surgery may be more suitable; because bruising, nodules, and other responses vary by individual, we start with less and build up in stages.

Chin Tip SUTURE guide image

SutureChin Tip

A highly viscoelastic product is injected into the deep layer above the periosteum of the mentum (chin) to create length. A highly cohesive volumizer-type product maintains the structure, and the surface texture is refined with a softer product. Midline alignment and left-right symmetry come first.

Profile Assessment HYBRID guide image

HybridProfile Assessment

We assess whether the lips sit naturally within the E-line (Ricketts' esthetic line), which runs from the nasal tip through the lips to the chin tip. Norms for Asian faces differ somewhat from Ricketts' original standard, so the decision is tailored to the patient's facial structure. We review profile photographs together at the consultation.

Combined with Botox PARTIAL guide image

PartialCombined with Botox

A combination of masseter Botox to reduce width and chin filler to add length is often used. The order and interval of treatments are decided at the consultation, and a common approach is to adjust the filler amount after the effect of the Botox has settled.

Limits Explained INCISION guide image

IncisionLimits Explained

When a receding chin requires a very large change, filler alone is limited in its ability to create a natural contour. In such cases, we tell you candidly at the consultation whether implant surgery would be more suitable. We explain in advance what filler can and cannot achieve.

OUR PRINCIPLE

Core Values
The Principles RESUM Keeps

Chin filler results are judged from the profile rather than the front. Rather than filling a lot at once, we check the profile line and refine in stages.

Profile First

Profile First

Profile First

How natural a chin looks is judged from the profile line rather than the front. We look for a natural position within the E-line that connects to the lips and the nasal tip. At the consultation, we plan while reviewing profile photographs together.

Right Depth

Right Depth

Supraperiosteal Depth

A highly cohesive product is injected into the deep layer above the periosteum of the chin tip to build structure. We review the distribution of the inferior labial and submental arteries, branches of the facial artery, and keep the injection at a safe depth. Using a cannula lowers the risk of vascular injury.

Honest Limitations

When a receding chin requires a large change, implant surgery may produce a more natural result than filler. At the consultation we explain candidly what filler can and cannot achieve, so that patients can decide for themselves which procedure to choose.

How HA Fillers Work

How HA Fillers Work

Chin filler works by injecting a gel made by cross-linking hyaluronic acid, a component naturally present in the skin, with BDDE or a similar agent. The cross-linked structure makes the gel more stable so that it does not break down easily, helping the chin line to be maintained for a certain period. The injected HA attracts water, adding length and volume to the chin tip. Cross-linked HA gel injected above the periosteum of the chin tip · BDDE cross-linking slows breakdown, supporting longevity · Chin line reinforced through water affinity · Partly adjustable with hyaluronidase if needed

Planning Tailored to Each Area (Viscoelasticity and Injection Layer)

Planning Tailored to Each Area (Viscoelasticity and Injection Layer)

The chin is an area that needs structure, so we use volumizer-type products with a high storage modulus (G'). The standard injection layer is the deep layer above the periosteum of the mentum (chin), and the amount and direction are set after assessing profile proportions within the E-line (Ricketts), which runs from the nasal tip to the chin tip. A combination of masseter Botox to reduce width and chin filler to add length is also often used. Volumizer-type products with a high G' · Deep-layer injection above the periosteum of the chin tip · Planning based on E-line profile proportions · Can be combined with masseter Botox

Precautions
Aftercare & Precautions

N · 01 Chin filler results are judged from the profile rather than the front, and midline alignment and left-right symmetry come first.
N · 02 Rather than injecting a lot at once, we check the profile line and refine in stages to reduce asymmetry.
N · 03 We review the distribution of the inferior labial and submental arteries, branches of the facial artery, and keep the injection at the supraperiosteal depth of the chin tip.
N · 04 Temporary swelling, bruising, and tenderness may occur after injection and settle within a few days.
N · 05 Placing too much in the superficial layer can make nodules or left-right asymmetry noticeable, so we give priority to distributing the filler in the deep layer.
N · 06 When a receding chin requires a large change, implant surgery may be more suitable; treatment is not performed during pregnancy or on infected areas.
N · 07 Results may vary depending on individual constitution and treatment condition, and a consultation with a board-certified specialist is required before treatment.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions

We have compiled the questions patients ask most often before a consultation.

Chin filler is a treatment in which highly viscoelastic cross-linked hyaluronic acid is injected into the deep layer above the periosteum of the mentum (chin) to create length and a defined profile line. The priority is a natural-looking profile rather than the frontal view, and we look for a natural position within the E-line that runs from the nasal tip through the lips to the chin tip.
A common approach is to build structure with a highly cohesive volumizer-type product and refine the surface with a softer product. The choice is made at the consultation according to the patient's profile line and the degree of chin recession. Suitability for the area and injection depth, rather than the product name, determine the result.
Hyaluronic acid settles in place immediately, so a change in the profile line is visible right after treatment. Swelling may occur for the first 1-2 days, so the contour stabilizes at around 1 week. We recommend assessing the final contour after the swelling has subsided.
You can return to daily activities the same day. Swelling and tenderness settle within a few days, and the final, stable contour takes shape at around 1 week. It is advisable to keep your schedule light for the first 2-3 days.
Temporary swelling, bruising, and tenderness may occur and settle within a few days. Nodules, asymmetry, and hypersensitivity reactions are reported in rare cases, and vascular complications have been reported very rarely. To lower the risk, safe injection depth, use of a cannula, and having a dissolving enzyme on hand are important.
Pricing depends on the product used, the injection volume, and whether additional areas are treated together. At the consultation we assess your profile, decide the product and amount, and then provide a quote. On average, the amount falls within the range of 1-3cc.
