Lateral Canthal Reconstruction: A Look at a Recent Case Study

Past History- Lateral canthoplasty at another clinic 2 years ago > outer corners splayed into a "C" shape, asymmetry.
> 1 year ago at the same clinic, the right side was opened further and the left side was raised.
Chief Complaint- The shape is still uneven, the "C"-shaped splaying remains, and there is dry eye.
Patient's concern- Worried that the eyes would end up smaller than the natural eyes after reconstruction.
Physical Examination- On both sides, the outer end of the white tarsal plate had dropped and become horizontal,
creating a "C" shape, and red tissue had settled in the "C"-shaped area.
Plan- Lateral canthal reconstruction was performed on both sides.

The "C"-shaped deformity of the outer corner has fully recovered, and after reconstruction the white tarsal plate
has regained its upward slope toward the outer corner.

The shape of the outer corner has been cleanly restored.
The patient was worried that "the eyes might become smaller than my natural eyes after reconstruction,"
but the eyes have not become smaller and look natural.

In the left eye as well, the outer corner that had splayed into a "C" shape has returned to normal.
