Thread and Filler Nose Procedures and a Case of Resolving Their Side Effects

Thread and Filler Nose Procedures and a Case of Resolving Their Side Effects
Without surgery,
there have been attempts to reshape the nose with threads and fillers alone,
and quite a few clinics promote this.
In clinical practice, however,
there are many cases in which threads placed in the nose break through the skin
or cause inflammation.
The threads used in nose procedures to define the tip,
lengthen the nose,
and raise the bridge
are thick and stiff.
As a result, the foreign body sensation is also pronounced,
and there is considerable concern that they will break through the skin,
so caution is needed.

Past History: 7 years ago, the patient had a nose procedure with threads and filler.
Chief Complaint: 6 months ago, filler was injected again into the glabella,
and inflammation developed recently.
Physical Examination: At the glabella, along with a skin perforation,
a granuloma was seen,
and an indentation was visible at the tip.
OP: Through an open approach, the threads and filler
were all cleanly removed.

The photo on the left shows
threads as thick as wire, taken from the dorsum,
about 20 in all.
These threads, together with the filler, caused inflammation
and led to the skin perforation.
The photo on the right shows
the threads and inflamed tissue.

5 months after surgery,
the indentation at the tip has disappeared,
and the mark where the perforation on the dorsum was sutured
has become very faint.
After removal, there has been no further inflammatory reaction or symptoms,
and the perforation mark has also cleared.
Even after removal, the height of the dorsum
did not drop much,
and the nose has a natural shape.
After removal, the dorsum and tip have become slim
and natural, as can be seen.
