Rhinoplasty with Acellular Dermal Matrix - Photo 1

The noses of Asian men are typically short and low, with a bulbous tip. Male rhinoplasty therefore consists of tip plasty, which lengthens and raises the short, low tip, and augmentation rhinoplasty, which raises the low nasal bridge.
Tip plasty generally uses septal cartilage or ear cartilage, while the nasal bridge uses an artificial implant such as silicone or Gore-Tex, or human tissue such as acellular dermal matrix or autologous dermis.
Comparing the silicone implant, the material most often used to raise the nasal bridge, with acellular dermal matrix:
silicone raises concerns about side effects such as inflammation, contracture, implant show-through, and redness caused by skin damage, whereas with acellular dermal matrix there is no need to worry about these side effects, and the shape of the nose is also very natural.

This patient had a low nasal bridge and a short, bulbous tip, the typical nose shape of an Asian man. At the consultation, he also wanted his wide, flared alar base to be brought in naturally.

Surgery was performed using ear cartilage for the tip and acellular dermal matrix for the nasal bridge. The tip was lengthened and raised, and acellular dermal matrix 5-6 mm in height was placed along the nasal bridge. After surgery, the nasal bridge is naturally higher and the nose is sufficiently longer, creating a masculine nasal bridge.
The bulbous tip has been refined and the flared alar base has been brought in, giving a sleek appearance. With acellular dermal matrix, if no problem such as inflammation appears within 2 weeks after surgery, there is no concern that problems will appear later.

With the tip supported and raised, the alar base has been brought in naturally. The flared nose has narrowed, giving it a sleeker shape.

The nose is sufficiently longer and the nasal bridge is well defined. With the bulbous tip refined, the alar base has also slimmed naturally.

From the low nasal bridge and short, bulbous tip characteristic of Asian men's noses, the nose has become straight and well extended, giving a clean impression.
