A visit-planning guide to the jawline thread lift at RESUM Plastic Surgery Clinic in Gangnam: how long to set aside, what the first two weeks look like and when threads are not the right tool.

A jawline thread lift repositions soft tissue that has slid from the cheeks down onto the jawline. Absorbable threads (PDO, PLLA or PCL) are placed in the dermis and the layer under it through fine needle points, with no incision. Cog threads grip the tissue and draw it up and back toward the temple, while mono threads are added to support collagen.
The direction of the pull matters more than the number of threads. At RESUM Plastic Surgery Clinic in Gangnam, Seoul, Dr. Jin-Young Kim plans the cheek and the jaw as one line and checks the profile and the angle between chin and neck. Sagging is rarely symmetrical, so the thread count and entry positions often differ between the two sides.
Set aside 40-60 minutes for the treatment itself, plus time for the consultation and the design before it. Local anaesthesia is used. The main swelling settles in 3-5 days and most of it has gone within 1-2 weeks, and for those 1-2 weeks you are asked to avoid opening the mouth wide, exaggerated expressions and strong massage. Tell us your travel dates when you book so that this period can be taken into account.
| Treatment time | 40-60 minutes |
|---|---|
| Anaesthesia | Local anaesthesia |
| Daily activities | Main swelling settles in 3-5 days; mostly gone within 1-2 weeks |
| How long it lasts | About 12 months as a general guide; by thread type about 9-12 months (PDO), 12-24 months (PLA) or 24-36 months (PCL) |
A jawline thread lift cannot make the jawbone smaller. If the lower face is wide because of the bone itself, the change from threads is limited and bone surgery or another method may fit better, and you will be told so plainly at the consultation. Threads along the jaw also do not correct a sagging neck, which needs its own assessment. Adding more threads is not the answer to a weak result: too many raise the risk of dimpling, knot irritation and asymmetry, so the thread type is reviewed first.

Your jawline has lost definition because the cheeks have dropped, typically in your 30s-40s.
Your jawbone has been assessed as not large in itself, with soft-tissue sagging as the main cause.
You want to tidy the profile and the jawline without surgery.
You plan to stage it with Ultherapy, Thermage or another thread lift.
An earlier V-line treatment faded quickly and you want the thread type and the design reviewed.
Swelling is most noticeable for about 3-5 days and has mostly gone by 1-2 weeks. Bruising and a pulling sensation are usual, and mild irritation around the entry points fades within a few days.
For 1-2 weeks, do not open your mouth wide, pull strong facial expressions or have firm massage. The threads need this time to seat along the jawline.
A slight difference between the two sides can appear at first and evens out with time. How long the lift holds depends on the thread chosen, your rate of skin ageing, weight changes and how expressive your face is.
The treatment is not carried out during pregnancy or on skin with an active infection.
Known risks are temporary asymmetry, dimpling and irritation from a thread knot, most of which settle with time. Infection and thread exposure are rare but have been reported, and they are explained before you decide.
A conservative thread count keeps these risks lower. Outcomes differ from person to person, so the plan is made only after an in-person consultation with a specialist.
A jawline thread lift takes 40-60 minutes under local anaesthesia and needs no incision, so the procedure itself is short. Plan around the recovery instead: the main swelling settles in 3-5 days, most of it within 1-2 weeks, and wide mouth opening and firm massage are off limits for 1-2 weeks.
A jawline thread lift is done under local anaesthesia, and the threads go in through fine needle points instead of incisions. Afterwards, swelling, bruising and a feeling of tightness are usual, and mild irritation near the entry points goes within a few days.
No. A jawline thread lift moves sagging soft tissue and leaves the bone as it is. When the width comes from the jawbone, the visible change is limited, and Dr. Jin-Young Kim will tell you at the consultation if bone surgery or another method is the better route.
Yes, a jawline thread lift can be staged with Ultherapy, Thermage or another thread lift, and the order and spacing are set at the consultation. If the neck is also sagging, it is assessed separately, because lifting the jawline alone does not tidy the profile.
Dr. Jin-Young Kim decides the thread count and the entry points for each side after examining you, and more is not better. The result does not rise in step with the number of threads. If a longer-lasting effect is wanted, a longer-lasting thread type such as PCL is considered before the count is raised.
