At a glance

What is Ultherapy for Neck Lines?

Ultherapy for Neck Lines is ultrasound lifting planned for the thin skin of the neck, using three depths: 1.5 mm for shallow horizontal lines, 3.0 mm for firmness in the deep dermis and 4.5 mm for the platysma. The device is the one used on the face, but energy is set lower and the lines are spaced wider.

The thyroid, carotid arteries and trachea lie close to the surface of the neck. Their position is checked on DeepSEE real-time ultrasound imaging before any line is placed, the midline over the thyroid is left out, and the 4.5 mm depth is applied only from the sides.

How long does Ultherapy for Neck Lines take?

Ultherapy for Neck Lines takes 30-45 minutes, and you can return to daily activities right after it. The consultation includes a review of your medical history, so bring a list of any conditions and medicines, thyroid disease in particular, and tell us your travel dates.

What can Ultherapy for Neck Lines not do?

Ultherapy alone cannot fully correct very deep horizontal neck lines or prominent platysmal bands. In those cases Botox, a thread lift or neck lift surgery may suit you better, and Dr. Jin-Young Kim explains this in the consultation instead of repeating a treatment that will not smooth the lines.

Purpose & suitability

Horizontal neck lines or loose neck skin bother you.

Your face looks firmer than your neck and you want the two to match.

You want a conservative, non-surgical approach to the neck contour.

You want the position of your thyroid checked on imaging before treatment.

You would like the doctor to tell you which method fits the depth of your neck lines.

Treatment process

  1. Neck and history review. Dr. Jin-Young Kim checks skin thickness, horizontal lines and platysmal bands, and goes through your medical history, including any thyroid disease, to set the scope.
  2. Avoidance zones. The midline boundary and the lateral lines are drawn in advance from the positions of the thyroid, carotid arteries and trachea.
  3. Guided treatment. With the thyroid and vessels in view on DeepSEE imaging, lines are placed mainly on the sides at a low intensity suited to thin neck skin.
  4. Aftercare briefing. The neck is soothed, then we explain care for tightness and redness and how to keep pressure off the neck.

Time & recovery

A sore tightness when you turn your neck or tilt your head back can last a few days and usually eases within a week. Mild redness or dot-like marks on the surface fade within a short time.

For a few days, leave turtlenecks and scarves in your suitcase and skip hot compresses. Use a neck moisturiser and sun protection.

Collagen rebuilds gradually, so the neck contour usually changes over 2-3 months, mostly after you are home.

Limitations & precautions

Tell us in advance if you have a thyroid condition. The midline over the thyroid is avoided and the platysma is treated from the sides only.

Neck skin is thinner than facial skin, so sensations during the session can feel more distinct. Intensity is kept conservative and we check how you are feeling as we go.

Temporary swelling, tightness, slight bruising and irritation can occur and settle within 1-2 weeks. Nerve irritation has been reported in rare cases.

A single session may not smooth deep lines or prominent bands, and results vary between individuals.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have neck Ultherapy on a short trip to Seoul?

Yes, Ultherapy for Neck Lines takes 30-45 minutes and daily activities can resume right after it. Expect a sore tightness when turning your neck for a few days, and avoid turtlenecks, scarves and hot compresses during that time.

Does it hurt more on the neck than on the face?

Sensations can feel more distinct on the neck because the skin is thinner than on the face. Numbing cream is used, IV sedation is available, and the intensity is set conservatively while the team checks how you are feeling.

Can the neck be treated together with the face?

Yes, the neck can be planned on its own or together with the face. Facial settings are not carried over to the neck: energy is lowered, lines are spaced wider and the midline over the thyroid is avoided.

Can it replace Botox or a neck lift?

Not in every case. Ultherapy for Neck Lines suits horizontal lines and lax skin treated without surgery, but very deep lines or prominent platysmal bands are hard to correct with it alone. Dr. Jin-Young Kim at RESUM Plastic Surgery Clinic will say when Botox, a thread lift or neck lift surgery is the better choice.

When will my neck look different after I fly home?

The neck contour usually changes slowly over 2-3 months after Ultherapy for Neck Lines, as new collagen forms over 2-6 months. Some change is visible right after the session. The timing varies between individuals, so RESUM does not give a fixed date, and the overview figure for how long it lasts is about 12 months.
