A visit-planning guide to anterior cheek filler at RESUM in Gangnam: how long the appointment takes, what the first 1-2 weeks look like and what the treatment cannot change.

Anterior cheek filler places cross-linked hyaluronic acid deep in the front, inner part of the cheek to fill a hollow midface. A firm, high-G' volumizer-type product is set on the bone surface at the front of the cheekbone, so the support comes from the deep layer and not from the skin.
A flat or sunken front cheek is one of the main reasons under-eye shadows and nasolabial folds look deeper. When that is the cause, filling the cheek softens both lines, which is why the doctor often treats the cheek before the fold itself.
The injection takes 20-30 minutes once the numbing cream has worked, and you can go back to daily activities the same day. Swelling is possible, so keep the first 2-3 days light and allow 1-2 weeks for the contour to become stable. Tell us your travel dates when you book so the consultation and the injection can be arranged around them.
| Treatment time | 20-30 minutes |
|---|---|
| Anaesthesia | Topical anaesthesia (numbing cream) |
| Back to daily activities | Right after the treatment |
| How long it lasts | About 6-12 months |
Anterior cheek filler does not make the cheekbones larger. It fills a hollow so that the midface looks balanced, and it is built up in stages, so a first visit may deliberately stop short of the full amount. The cheek is also not judged on its own: the lateral cheeks, the nasolabial folds and the lines around the mouth are looked at together, and the doctor decides which area should come first.

You are in your 30s to 50s or older and the front of your cheeks has flattened.
Shadows under the eyes and the folds beside the nose have deepened together.
You had your nasolabial folds filled before and the result looked unnatural.
You want midface volume back without surgery, possibly together with the lateral cheeks.
Swelling, bruising and tenderness can appear after the injection and usually calm down within a few days. Swelling is most likely in the first 1-2 days.
For 1 week, do not press hard on the treated area.
The change in volume is visible straight away, but the stable contour forms after 1-2 weeks. Judge the result at that point, not on the day of treatment.
The treatment is not performed during pregnancy or on skin with an active infection or severe inflammation.
Uncommon complications include nodules, asymmetry and hypersensitivity, and in very rare cases a vascular complication. To lower these risks the depth is controlled with the course of the infraorbital artery in mind, the filler stays in the deep layer above the bone, and a dissolving enzyme is kept on hand.
Too much filler near the surface can cause nodules or an unnatural bulge, which is why the amount starts low.
Results differ with each person's constitution and condition. A consultation with a specialist is required before treatment.
Yes, the injection takes 20-30 minutes and daily activities can resume the same day. Allow 2-3 lighter days for swelling and tenderness, and note that the stable contour appears after 1-2 weeks, which may be after you have left Seoul.
The anterior cheek usually comes first when its hollowing is what makes the nasolabial folds look deep. Filling the cheek alone can soften the fold line, and it tends to look more natural than filling the fold directly. Dr. Jin-Young Kim assesses the cause at the consultation and sets the order.
No, anterior cheek filler is not meant to enlarge the cheekbones. It fills hollowing in the midface, and the filler is distributed in the deep layer in a conservative amount to avoid an unnatural bulge.
Numbing cream (topical anaesthesia) is applied before anterior cheek filler is injected. Tenderness, swelling and bruising can follow and usually ease within a few days. Tell the doctor at the consultation if you are sensitive to pain.
Anterior cheek filler uses 1-3cc on average and lasts about 6-12 months. Dr. Jin-Young Kim of RESUM Plastic Surgery Clinic decides the product and the amount after assessing how deep the hollowing is, starting low and adding in stages.
